Economists have long recognized the importance of capital accumulation for productivity and economic growth. The development of quantitative knowledge about capital formation and its link to economic performance began at the national Bureau of Economic Research over fifty years ago with pioneering studies by Nobel laureate Simon Kuznets. In the years since, many other researchers at the Bureau have continued making valuable contributions in this area.
