On The Trail of Baden-Powell

Al Rose was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan in 1929 at the start of the "dirty thirties" and the Great Depression. His parents were essentially uneducated but his dad worked for the Federal Government Agricultural Research Department at the University of Saskatchewan so there was at least food on the table. Grandparents were pioneers. The family raised milk goats and sold the milk to the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Saskatoon.
The family ambition was to have all their kids educated to university degree level, and Al and his older sister did make it to that level.
Al joined the Boy Scouts as a cub and spent the rest of his life "on the trail of Baden-Powell" including thirty-two years as a Scouter around Canada and Europe.
The book is a collection of scouting anecdotes that the author found interesting and sometimes amusing, but growing up in Saskatchewan in the "dirty thirties" was for many people and families not easy, and a few of the anecdotes refer to those times, and the fact that being "on the trail of Baden-Powell" was an essential part of turning all that into a fascinating life.
