Inspired by true events, this rite of passage story follows the journeys of an orphaned eight-year-old boy, Mason Classon, a displaced owl named Hootie, and Jim Odom, who alongside each other find the strength and determination to overcome the tragedies that took so much from them.

Julie Houston Rogers, a retired fifth-grade teacher, has always loved reading and making up stories to share with children. So she decided to write stories for children about history and science. She lives in a small South Georgia town with her husband, Doyle; her Yorkie, Lucy Loo; and two cats, Spanky and Bitsy.
