Hamilton's second volume on the Book of Genesis is part of The New International Commentary on the Old Testament, a series which devotes considerable care to achieving a balance between technical information and homiletic-devotional interpretation. The commentary proper is based on the author's own translation of the Hebrew text.

Victor P. Hamilton was professor of Bible and theology at Asbury University for more than thirty years. His books include Handbook on the Pentateuch and Handbook on the Historical Books.
