"Power and Global Sport" explores global sport and the power relationships associated with sport in local, national, and international contexts. Through investigation of central themes such as global governance, local identity, and media representation, Maguire identifies key structured processes that have shaped the global development of sport. The analysis offers an important account both of how globalization is shaping contemporary sport, and of the role that sport plays in globalization.

Joseph Maguire is Professor of Sociology of Sport and Co-Director of the Centre for Olympic Studies & Research at Loughborough University, UK, as well as Past President of the International Sociology of Sport Association (1995-2003).
