Any understanding of the complex politics of the post-Soviet Caucasus presupposes an understanding of the relationship between the transportation of Azerbaijan's oil, inter-state relations and ethnic conflicts. This is a contribution to the debate revolving around the geo-politics of the Caucasus.

Dr Emmanuel Karagiannis has taught international politics at the University of Hull where he obtained his Doctorate in 1999, and is now a political and security analyst specializing in the Black Sea and the Caucasus regions.
