This book provides a basic discussion of the smart distribution concept and new technologies related to it, including distributed energy resources (DERs), demand side integration, microgrids, CELL and virtual power plants. It describes various analysis methods and introduces the concept of planning and operating smart distribution networks, often referred to as smart grids. This book will allow readers to engage with the immediate development of the electricity distribution networks and take part in the debate over the future Smart Grid.

Dr. Chengshan Wang, Ph.D., is Chang-Jiang (Cheung Kong) Scholar Professor in Tianjin University and the director of the Key Laboratory of Smart Grid of Ministry of Education in China. Dr. Jianzhong Wu, Ph.D., is a senior lecturer at the Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff University, UK. Janaka Ekanayake is a professor at the Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff University, UK.
