A century ago, Henry Kitchell Webster (1875-1932) was a well-known, well-paid, and well-respected author. His stories frequently appeared in major magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post. In 1921, the New York Times printed his thoughts on "What Is a Novel, Anyhow?" Webster also published more than two dozen novels, including (with Samuel Merwin) *Calumet K*, which is still in print.

Shocked by the news of the doctor's death, Drew looks across the dining room to find Marshall's son, who has come at his mother's request. In the cab back to their apartment, the young man has one word on his lips: murder.
