"Social Psychology takes a sociological approach to the study of the individual in relationship to society. It's main purpose is is to highlight how social psychology provides varied, yet inter-related, explanations for individuals' experiences in groups. The text tells the story of how these dynamics unfold, beginning with the central social characteristics of the individual, to processes of perception and of interaction. In the telling of this story, it also notes some of the interesting cross-cultural comparisons in regard to these dynamics. Throughout, the authors use three themes that underscore the reciprocal relationship between individuals and the social worlds: -the various "domains" of social psychology are interrealted. -an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors depend upon the social context, such as status and power structures. -social psychological processes act as a micro or individual-level foundation for "macro" or group-level phenomena, such as group structures, organizational cultures, health inequalities, educational patterns, crime rates, social movements, or large scale social processes in general. inclusive of the domains of symbolic interactionism and group processes, and with recognition of how intra-individual processes contribute to the understanding of identities and status processes.
