The Monitor and The Merrimac is a collection of first-hand accounts of one of the most famous naval engagements in history: The Battle of Hampton Roads. It was here that ironclad warships fought for the first time, bringing in the end of the era of the wooden warship. As H. Ashton Ramsay, Chief Engineer of The Merrimac said,
