Biografische Anmerkung

The Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment is a classic Buddhist text by the great master Atisha (979-1054) explaining the various stages of the entire Buddhist path. It is translated here together with a detailed commentary by Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye (1813-1899), allowing readers to develop a complete understanding of the work.

Adrian O'Sullivan has for over 20 years translated and published numerous Tibetan texts, including works by the great Buddhist masters Nagarjuna and Shantideva. He is a director and instructor for Sakya Samten Ling Buddhist Centre in Santa Monica, California.

Atisha (982-1054) was an Indian Buddhist scholar and teacher renowned for his role in the revitalization of Buddhism in Tibet. He was instrumental in the spread of the Kadampa tradition and emphasized the importance of bodhicitta (the mind of enlightenment) and the Lamrim (stages of the path) in Tibetan Buddhism.

Jamgon Kongtrul (1813-1899) was a prominent Tibetan Buddhist master, scholar, and author. He played a key role in the Rime (non-sectarian) movement, promoting the study and preservation of various Buddhist traditions in Tibet. Kongtrul is known for his extensive writings and his efforts to unite and disseminate diverse teachings within Tibetan Buddhism.
