Accelerated degradation of soils and surface waters produce increasing problems in many parts of the world. Within this context, the book addresses the topic Application of Physically Based Soil Erosion Models in order to present some essential tools for improving land-use strategies and conservation measures. Over the last 20 years, the need for more accurate assessments of soil losses and sediment yields has led to the development of some highly complex, process-based soil erosion models. In 14 papers, specialists from 5 European countries, the USA and Brazil report on practical applications of these models and give insight into the latest developments. This book will help to implement state-of-the-art soil erosion prediction technologies within soil and water conservation planning and assessment. Hence, the book should be of special interest to agricultural and environmental engineers, hydrologists, soil scientists and geoscientists.

I Practical Model Applications.- 1 The Influence of Global Greenhouse-Gas Emissions on Future Rates of Soil Erosion: a Case Study from Brazil Using WEPP-CO2.- 2 Applying the LISEM Model for Investigating Flood Prevention and Soil Conservation Scenarios in South-Limburg, the Netherlands.- 3 Application of Modified AGNPS in German Watersheds.- 4 Physically Based Modeling of Surface Runoff and Soil Erosion under Semi-arid Mediterranean Conditions ¿ the Example of Oued Mina, Algeria.- 5 Assessing the Impact of Lake Shore Zones on Erosional Sediment Input Using the EROSION-2D Erosion Model.- 6 Modeling the Sediment and Heavy Metal Yields of Drinking Water Reservoirs in the Osterzgebirge Region of Saxony (Germany).- 7 A Multiscale Approach to Predicting Soil Erosion on Cropland Using Empirical and Physically Based Soil Erosion Models in a Geographic Information System.- 8 SMODERP ¿ A Simulation Model of Overland Flow and Erosion Processes.- 9 Modeling Overland Flow and Soil Erosion for a Military Training Area in Southern Germany.- II Model Validation.- 10 A Process-Based Evaluation of a Process-Based Soil-Erosion Model.- 11 WEPP, EUROSEM, E-2D: Results of Applications at the Plot Scale.- 12 Simulating Hydrological and Erosional Processes Using the PEPP-HILLFLOW Model-Parameter Determination and Model Application.- III Recent Model Developments.- 13 Dynamics and Scale in Simulating Erosion by Water.- 14 Modeling Surface Runoff.
