Urban centres of developing world are facing the problem of unplanned & undesirable growth. In India most of the cities are facing the problems of overcrowding, housing problem, safe drinking water problem, inadequate waste & sewage disposal provisions, poor sanitation, mushrooming of slums, traffic congestion, high pollution level (air, water & soil), frequent outburst of epidemics etc. The city of Gorakhpur is also crippled with similar problems. The study tries to assess the pattern of urban growth, level of infrastructure, status of environmental problems of the city & tries to provide amicable solutions to overcome these problems.
Nutan Tyagi took PhD from Gorakhpur University and also obtained PG Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS from IIRS, Dehradun. She is working as Professor in the Department of Geography, Gorakhpur University. Her area of specialization includes Urban Geography, Tourism, Remote Sensing and GIS. She has five books and 25 research papers to her credit.
