The advent and applications of Nuclear Medicine in Dentistry, has revolutionized the era of diagnosis of Dento-Maxillofacial disorders. It involves use of tracer amounts of radioactive substances in diagnosis of bone structures and function of the jaws. It is also beneficial in detection of subtle changes in Temporo-mandibular joints, presence and spread of benign and malignant tumors occurring in the Maxillofacial region. This is accomplished by measuring radiation emitted by radiopharmaceuticals as they localize in different maxillofacial regions.
