"Diet for an Emperor" presents the first translation into English of Books 1 and 4 of the "Medical Compilations" of Oribasius, together with a commentary assessing the medical theories behind this invaluable source of information on food and diet in the Roman Empire.

Mark David Grant, Ph.D. (1988) in Greek, University of St.Andrews, is a Classics teacher at Haileybury College, Hertford. He researches into food and diet under the Roman empire, having published articles on this theme and a book comprising a translation with commentary of Anthimus On the Observance of Foods (Prospect, 1996).
