This volume contains ten essays on Seneca the Younger. Approaching the Roman writer from various angles, the authors endeavor both to illuminate individual aspects of Seneca's enormous output and to discern common themes among the different genres practiced by him.

Katharina Volk, Ph.D. (1999) in Classics, Princeton University, is Assistant Professor of Classics at Columbia University. A specialist in Latin poetry, she has published The Poetics of Latin Didactic: Lucretius, Vergil, Ovid, Manilius (2002) as well as numerous articles.
Gareth D. Williams, Ph.D. (1990) in Classics, Cambridge, is Professor of Classics at Columbia University. He is the editor of Seneca's De otio and De breuitate uitae (2003) and the author of recent articles on Seneca's Natural Questions.
