This book traces the history of the Greek orthodox community of Péra (Beyoğlu) between 1804 and 1923. It is based on parish archives and studies, through the case of Péra, the functionning and the aspirations of christian ottoman communities at the age of nationalism.
Ce livre retrace l'histoire de la communauté grecque orthodoxe de Péra (Beyoğlu) entre 1804 et 1923. Il puise dans les archives paroissiales et étudie, à travers le cas de Péra, le fonctionnement et les aspirations des communautés chrétiennes ottomanes à l'âge des nationalismes.

Méropi Anastassiadou is Professor of Modern History at INALCO, Paris. Her research focuses on urban societies in 19th and 20th century Eastern Mediterranean. She has published Salonique, 1830-1912 (Brill, 1997), Les Grecs d'Istanbul au XXIe siècle (Cerf, 2011, with P. Dumont).
