Biografische Anmerkung

The third volume of the Manasseh Hill Country Survey presents the results of a detailed archaeological survey of north-western Samaria. It is a valuable tool for scholars of the Bible, Archaeology, Near Eastern history and the Holy Land.

Adam Zertal, PhD (Tel Aviv University), was Emeritus Professor of Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Haifa, Israel. He dedicated most of his career to the survey and its implications. Among his other achievements are the discoveries and interpretations of several excavated sites, including the Iron Age 1 altar on Mt. Ebal, the city of el-Ahwat (possibly of the Shardana of the Sea-Peoples), the city of Khirbet Hamam (Narbata of Josephus), and the sandal-shaped Gilgalim in the Jordan Valley. Until now, five volumes of the survey have been published in Hebrew and three in English. He passed away in October 2015, aged 79.
Nivi Mirkam, the co-author, who took part in the survey from its beginning and contributed many ideas and much help in the organization of the project. He passed away in January 2004, aged 61.
