This volume reflects on what legibility entails in today's machinic world. It asks what makes cultural expressions, from literary texts, films, artworks and museum exhibits to archives, laws and algorithms, il/legible to whom or what, and with what consequences.

Pepita Hesselberth is Assistant Professor of Film and Literary Studies and Digital Culture at Leiden University, and research fellow at the Department of Arts and Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.

Janna Houwen is Assistant Professor of Film and Literary Studies at Leiden University.

Esther Peeren is Professor of Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam.

Ruby de Vos is a PhD Candidate at the Groningen Research Institute for the Study of Culture at the University of Groningen.
