Biografische Anmerkung

Glyn Cannon's brilliantly dark and mischievous debut

In this darkly witty exploration of love and relationships Cannon explores how much you need to see of someone to know they are worth "taking a chance on". After apparently seeing everything, Shona is to move in with her boyfriend Dan. Her chronically shy work colleague Edward however struggles to articulate his feelings when faced with the blind and erotic Maria. In an innovative staging, their respective evenings unfold simultaneously on stage, bringing illumination to all concerned.

ON BLINDNESS is published to tie in with a collaboration between three of the UK's cutting edge companies - Paines Plough, Frantic Assembly and Graeae - in a production at Soho Theatre.

Born 1976, in Tottenham, North London. On Blindness was first written as one of the lunchtime readin gs in Wild Lunch VI (produced by Paines Plough and Graeae in May 2002 at the Young Vic) and Glyn was subsequently commissioned to write the full version. He is currently Paines Plough's Associate Play wright, a post supported by Arts Council England. On Blindness is his first professional stage produ ction. Other recent theatre writing includes Nebuchadnezzar, Coffee and Appalachia (Latchmere Theatr e and BAC) and a new version of Sophocles' Antigone in development, Gone, produced at LAMDA. He curr ently teaches part-time at Goldsmiths College, University of London and Central School of Speech and Drama, and has led writers workshops as far afield as the Teatr Rozmaitosci, Warsaw.
