Glyn Cannon was born 1976 in Tottenham, North London. On Blindness was first written as one of the lunchtime readings in Wild Lunch VI (produced by Paines Plough and Graeae in May 2002 at the Young Vic). Cannon was subsequently commissioned to write the full version. Other recent theatre writing includes Nebuchadnezzar, Coffee and Appalachia (Latchmere Theatre and BAC) and a new version of Sophocles' Antigone, entitled Gone, which was produced at LAMDA. As well as writing, he also teaches, and has worked at Goldsmiths College, University of London and Central School of Speech and Drama, and led writers' workshops as far afield as the Teatr Rozmaitosci in Warsaw.
Glyn Cannon's brilliantly dark and mischievous debut
In this darkly witty exploration of love and relationships Cannon explores how much you need to see of someone to know they are worth "taking a chance on". After apparently seeing everything, Shona is to move in with her boyfriend Dan. Her chronically shy work colleague Edward however struggles to articulate his feelings when faced with the blind and erotic Maria. In an innovative staging, their respective evenings unfold simultaneously on stage, bringing illumination to all concerned.
